A crown and a bridge are two different things, but made out of the same material. A crown is a single tooth, so we will do crowns if someone fractures a tooth. Brake’s a tooth that’s not onto the root surface and needs to be extracted. We’ll crown a tooth to restore the tooth back to health again, which will give you total function, chewing and make you eat your foods well. And so it takes care of that situation. A bridge is when you’re missing one tooth usually, and you have two crowns either side of that space, and hooked to those two crowns is another tooth and cemented into place with one so it doesn’t come out of your mouth and stays in. And that gives you full function of your chewing ability because now the missing tooth is closed up with another tooth. But the bridges, they’re made aesthetic. And so they’re not only pretty and they look good, but they also function like they’re supposed to.
Get Your Crown in a Single Visit Instead of Waiting for Weeks
Dental crowns and dental bridges are part of many of the smile repairs we perform at our practice. The reason is simple – they give us many options when it comes to reviving our patients’ smiles.
When we take impressions for your new crown or bridge, we’ll use a digital scanner that lets you avoid a distasteful, goopy mess in your mouth. Our patients appreciate this small touch. Plus, digital X-rays and a 3-D cone beam CT scanner will help us plan out your treatment. For the ultimate convenience, you can get a crown in just one visit to our office.
Your dentist has several ways to use a crown or bridge for your smile repair:
- Single Crown – We’ll make a beautiful same-day crown using our in-house CEREC system to cap your damaged or diseased tooth. Getting a crown in one visit takes the hassle out of the process.
- Standard Fixed Bridge – A traditional bridge will fill a gap in your smile while anchoring to the teeth on either side.
- Implant-Supported Crown – A dental implant-crown combination will replace a missing tooth and restore your chewing capacity. Unlike a bridge, the other option for replacing a tooth, your other teeth are unaffected.
- Implant-Supported Bridge – While similar to a traditional bridge, this bridge instead anchors to dental implants. There’s no need to touch any other teeth. Implants also help prevent the bone loss that occurs after losing teeth.
- Inlays and Onlays – Often called partial crowns, these restorations are usually made from porcelain. They cover the top or the top and sides of a tooth respectively.
